Battle of the Rim Reenactment & Remembrance Ceremony Saturday
08/17/2024, 9:30 a.m.

About this event

Join the Hannah Weston Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution for a rememberance ceremony marking the 246th anniversary of the 1777 Siege of Machias / Battle of the Rim.

The British came up the Machias River in early August of 1777, attempting to gain a foothold in Machias, but their efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.

Join us as we remember the incredible courage of the defenders of Machias who, in accordance with their principles and to protect their homes, took up arms against a seemingly overwhelming enemy in the August 1777 Siege of Machias, also known as the Battle of the Rim.

Let us recall and reflect so that our patriot ancestors’ courage and strength may live on to inspire this and future generations. As we consider their brave example may we realize that our success, like theirs, is possible only through a firm commitment to justice and an unwavering defense of basic rights.

In honoring them, may we have served the republic with integrity and devotion, and may we dedicate ourselves anew to faithful stewardship of the many blessings we have inherited through their fortitude and sacrifice.
